Tooth Colored Fillings

A filling repairs and restores a tooth that has been damaged by decay, fracture or wear. When a tooth is not repaired at its early stages, it will worsen leading to additional or alternative dental treatments. With proper care and routine oral hygiene, a tooth colored filling has a lifespan of 5-7 years, depending upon the type of filling material used.

What Are The Warning Signs?

Tooth sensitivity is the most common early warning sign of compromised enamel due to decay, fracture or wear. If a damaged tooth surface is not treated early, your discomfort will increase.

When is A Filling Recommended?

A Filling is recommended when:

  • The enamel of a tooth is damaged due to decay, fracture or wear.
  • A tooth needs to be evened out to improve your ability to bite or chew.

What Will A Patient Experience During A Filling?

After a thorough exam of your teeth, gums and supporting bone structure, Dr KJ Sturhahn will discuss treatment options with you and answer your questions. If the agreed-upon treatment is a tooth colored filling, Dr KJ Sturhahn will:

  • Numb the tooth to be treated with local anesthetic
  • Remove the decayed or damaged tooth surface
  • Clean the prepared tooth to remove debris and bacteria
  • Place the tooth colored filling shade matched to your tooth
  • Cure the filling with a blue light to completely harden the filling
  • Smooth, shape and polish the tooth to look and feel as natural as possible
